A study by Halifax Home Insurance has revealed that many of us can no longer afford to dedicate an entire room to study or work and nothing else. The insurer estimated that 125,000 study rooms were changed into bedrooms or living spaces last year as people felt they could not afford to move into a larger home or justify the use of the space. Chris Sellwood from estate agent Foxtons, commented by saying that many people now use lap tops and do not require the same amount of space as they may have previously. In addition, they have noticed that many people are opting to use hallways, under stairs cupboards and alcoves for study areas. Some enterprising types are even creating mezzanine levels to be used as workspaces. Recent figures from the TUC have also found that more people are working from home, but fewer use a study as a permanent space. The use of wireless devices means that people are able to work in any part of the house and even while on the move. |
